  • Afternoon Bliss At Sandhornøya

    Afternoon trip to Sandhornøya

The weather in northern Norway has been insane the last couple of days. We’ve been blessed with sun and 18 degrees celcius, which would be a godsend even in June here above the arctic circle. And if there is one thing the people up north know best it’s to enjoy great weather when we can.

That is why I did a short roadtrip to Sandhornøya with one of my best friends a few days ago. Sandhornøya is an island known for it’s gorgeous white sandy beaches and beautiful mountains. And the best part? It’s only a one hour drive from my hometown Bodø. I hadn’t been here since I was a child and I’ve been wanting to go back ever since. And man am I glad we did. Come on, look at this place.

We spent the entire afternoon walking along the beach, playing with my favorite cutie Ragnar. Once it got chilly we set up a small fire by the beach and enjoyed our dinner in the best possible way – outside.

If you’re ever in the area of Bodø or Gildeskål I strongly recommend a drive to Sandhornøy. Not only is the destination itself worth the trip, the drive is an adventure with it’s incredible views of this region as well. It is perfect for an afternoon, an entire day or for camping overnight. There is even a public restroom with great standards right next to the beach.

Before we went home we got to enjoy the beautiful sunset. I mean, even Ragnar had a smile on his face! We had such a great day and I can’t wait to come back here and spend the night in a tent later this summer.

It is really beautiful here up north by the coast, I really recommend it (even though I’m biased of course haha). Fingers crossed for you 😀
